District 10 International Director Pete Yauch has been elected as the District 10 International Director. The announcement was made at the 2010 Summer Meeting in Fort Lauderdale. Pete will be replacing outgoing District 10 International Director Jeff Arey. The District 10 Board thanks Jeff for his years of dedicated service, and looks forward to working with Pete in the coming years. Added 05/19/10 Volunteers Needed The Miami-Dade County Public Schools Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST) is seeking volunteers to be part of a team to improve traffic safety for school children in Miami-Dade County. Volunteers who participate on the CTST will be given the opportunity to collaborate with students from Florida International University (FIU) and their professors to perform the requisite engineering studies to develop safe routes for walking and biking to and from the school. This offers graduate and undergraduate students an avenue to do research in real life activities and help improve the safety for children at schools, while gaining experience in working with local governments and other transportation professionals. The CTST is a locally based team of multi-jurisdictional agencies under the auspices of the Florida Department of Transportation. Members include representatives from Citizen’s Independent Transportation Trust (CITT), Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Organization (MPO), Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami-Dade County Police Crossing Guard Unit, Miami-Dade County Public Works, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and Florida International University/Engineering Department. The CTST’s goal is to work together to improve traffic safety in our public schools. The CTST follows the 4 “E” disciplines that work in highway safety, including Engineering, Enforcement, Education/public information, and Emergency services. The CTST meets once a month in the Miami-Dade area for two hours. If you are interested in attending the next CTST meeting, please contact Ms. Vivian G. Villaamil (CTST Chair) at 305.995.7287 or via e-mail at vvillaamil@dadeschools.net.

Request for Sub-DRI,
Multi-use Developments The Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR)
was awarded a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to
collect high ‐quality internal capture data of sub‐DRI, multi-use
developments in Florida. This data will serve to enhance the understanding
of trip internalization and, thereby, increase the accuracy of estimating
internal capture for sub-DRI, multi‐use developments in Florida and
throughout the U.S. In addition, the development review process will benefit
from this work through decreased controversy regarding internal capture
within sub‐DRI, multi‐use developments. For more information,
