Welcome last update
01/21/12
Hello Florida ITE Members!
I hope that this message finds you all well and that you were able to relax and enjoy the holiday season with your family and friends. During this time of the year, we always seem to reflect on what we accomplished (or in some cases, didn’t accomplish) during the past 12 months. Now, it’s time to look ahead and think about our goals for this year. I can assure you that the Board members of the Florida Section of ITE are already thinking about how we can better serve its members. This year promises to be one filled with lots of opportunity for you (the member) to get involved with the professional society. Whether you participate at one of our workshops or attend a meeting, I promise that you will receive excellent value for your time and money.
What can we (the Board members) do to better serve our members? Remember, that this organization was originally set up to disseminate knowledge in the transportation planning and engineering fields, to create an environment for networking with colleagues, and to build long lasting friendships. My challenge to you is to help me make FSITE the best that it can be. Here are some things to consider:
· Perhaps we can provide video conferencing to the some of the workshops or technical sessions. · Maybe you want more one day workshops and less two-and-a-half day meetings? · Perhaps you want a meeting location that is less expensive to attend.
No matter what it is that we can do to improve the operation of this organization and better serve its members, it is extremely important that we receive feedback from you. Please, speak up and let the Board members know how we are doing and what we can do to improve.
On Friday, January 20th and Saturday, January 21st, our Executive Board members for District 10 / Florida Section and others will take part in the annual Board Retreat. The main purpose of the meeting is to set forth some goals and objectives for the year and even consider opportunities for year 2013 through strategic planning. We will also focus our attention on developing technical programs (themes and session topics) for upcoming meetings held during the spring/summer and fall/winter months. In fact, we have already established the date and location for the summer meeting. This meeting will be held from June 13th through June 15th at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort. Hopefully, you will be able to attend.
I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Rosana Correa for her outstanding leadership as President in 2011. She performed her duties well and set the bar high for those that follow in her footsteps. Thank you, Rosana, for helping me along the way. In addition, congratulations are in order for the newest member of the Board – Andrew Velasquez. He will be serving as our Treasurer and Membership Chairman. Welcome aboard, Andrew.
And finally, I am privileged and honored to serve as President of this great organization, and sincerely thank you for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead. If there is anything that I can do to improve the way that FSITE functions, please do not hesitate in letting me know. Constructive criticism goes a long way.
I look forward to seeing you at our next workshop entitled “Growth Management 2012 – A Grab Bag of Essential Topics”, which is scheduled for February 15th in Orlando.
Here is to a great 2012!
Best regards, Robert W. Fulp, PE District 10 / Florida Section ITE President
