Dear Members and Colleagues:

It’s hard to believe that we’ve already passed the half way point of the year (and hopefully most of the heat!) and we’ve had an interesting year so far. Local and state governments are adjusting to tax reform and holding their breath yet again for the outcome of several possible tax initiatives on this November’s ballot. Despite the belt-tightening of the first half of the year, our summer meeting in St. Pete Beach was well attended. Program Chair Angela Garland and the Local Arrangements Committee put on a great meeting with presentations ranging from Aging Urban Street Systems to Hillsborough County ’s Senior Zone Designation Program.  Our attendance was slightly less than last year but still strong considering the state of the economy.

One of the highlights for the meeting was the Thursday night Luau and reception with the now infamous Brain Bowl. Dave Muntean and Pete Yauch came up with some great questions and the two teams representing the public and private sectors performed spectacularly. Naturally the private sector won! J We had a great time and thanks to all those who participated and those who egged us on.

As you know, every two years the Florida District’s Annual Meeting is held in conjunction with ITS Florida at Transpo. This year Transpo2008 will take place from September 22- 25, 2008 at the Rosen Center Hotel in Orlando . This event is usually very well attended by both the public and private sectors and is a great opportunity for networking and learning what’s new in our industry. We have a great program this year based on the theme of “ITS, Piecing It All Together”.  We hope to see you there.
